Plastics are toxic only when super heated. PUL is safe. Even if PUL had health risks when used as diaper covers; remain aware of the chemicals that are used in disposable diapers and definitely DO interact with baby.

I do nor use diaper covers. Right before my child birth I discovered from my sister (she a MD) that swaddling clothes is much preferable.
Why? I was shocked. The answer - it keeps children in more natural position when it`s tight.  When he is in the womb he is more stooped. Like a ball. Diaper covers do not provide same effect. So I resumed use old-stylished)

I love cloth diapers. they were economical, easy to use and saved me from endless diaper rash they were this good back when my almost 3 year glad old was a baby.

I wonder…

I’ve purchased Organic FoxFibre diaper covers, but like many “organic” or “natural” products it is more of a marketing ploy than a safe healthy product. Looking into it: the outer lining is organic cotton but the inner lining which will minimally rub against babies skin is what they call “PUL.” That stands for PolyUrethane Laminate, which is supposed to be more durrably than the normal polyurethane.

To me that sounds worse! But still we don’t want leaks every time they make a mess… So what can we do?

Whether polyurethane is safe or not (being man made I would guess not) is a tough question to ask. Even if you choose not to subject you child to the chemical treated “disposable diapers” how do you truly find a “100% non-toxic” alternative?

If you find an answer PLEASE let me be the first to know!

It seems we’re doomed either way.

But in the long run as long as we are making conscious decisions toward the healthy side of life ()& keep asking these kinds of questions) at least we’re ahead of the game!

So is it safe? Probably more than wrapping our babies with poison oak, but still not quite as natural as our soul seeks…

I would definitely say no. Polyurethane is pretty toxic and that’s why I recommend that Moms should just try out cloth diapers.
