Calling All Parents: Your Burning Questions ANSWERED!
Healthy Child
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
Ask your health questions on our blog and have them answered by one of our favorite doctors in our new series, Ask The Doctor. When raising children, parents usually have a million questions they need answered, especially when it comes to health and safety. We often turn to friends with children, books by trusted advisors, or the wisdom of our own parents for answers. And sometimes a frantic call to the pediatrician’s office or our favorite nurse is the only way to get the information you need.
Without having a doctor on speed-dial, there’s another way to answer your burning questions about what’s best for your child’s health. Healthy Child is offering you access to the fantastic team of medical professionals who advise and guide us for a new blog series called Ask the Doctor.
Here’s how it works: You post your questions on this blog, then we ask one of the pediatricians or doctors we trust to answer them. It’s that simple.
We know you have questions! And if you don’t have one, you certainly have a friend from the playground or PTA who needs some answers. Remember the old classroom rule: If you have a question, undoubtedly someone else does too and will benefit from hearing the answer. So ask away!

My child has moluscum, I saw a product on the internet called “Silver ointment.” Here is some info on it.
Silver is safe. Electrically charged micronized, anti-microbial silver ions have proven to be safe and effective. Silver based products are now being used extensively in hospital settings on in-dwelling catheters, push plates on doors, faucets in bathrooms, and surgical instruments. Recent news reports report concerns that micronized, anti-microbial silverions are so effective that they may have to be regulated like a drug. There are no environmental problems because micronized, anti-microbial silver ions convert to elemental silver in 24 hours (that is why you have to keep re-applying SilverCure™™ Ointment). Silver is safe and allows the body’s own natural defenses to function more effectively.
I wanted to know if this product is safe to use or not? and from what age if would be safe?
Thanks

I was unable to breastfeed our first child for medical reasons and resorted to feeding our son formula in plastic BPA bottles for the first year of his life. With all of the news lately regarding BPAs unsafe levels in bottles I have tossed everything that may contain that chemical, but what can I do to reverse his exposure?
Also, if fluorinated water is bad for children why is it added to baby water?

My son is 15mo old and I have not gotten the MMR yet. I am scared and confused. How long should I wait until he might be “out of the woods”? I heard that he can’t go to public schools without the shot.
Thanks.

Jennifer - Thanks for submitting your question, but we believe vaccination questions should be discussed with your personal physician. I recommend checking out Dr. Sears “The Vaccine Book” to clearly inform yourself before you begin the conversation with your child’s doctor.
I hope your pediatrician is sensitive to your concerns. Good Luck!
