Earthbound Farm’s Famous Maple Almond Granola
If you've never made homemade granola, you’ll be surprised by the simplicity of my delicious Maple Almond Granola - it has only seven ingredients and is ready to go into the oven in just minutes!

This recipe is taken from Food to Live By: The Earthbound Farm Organic Cookbook (Workman, 2006)
Make It:
This recipe was one of the first ones I ever developed, and it’s been a best seller at our farm stand in Carmel Valley for over a decade. Its a great way to get kids to eat some of the healthiest foods on the planet: whole oats (lots of heart-healthy fiber), almonds (lots of protein, calcium, fiber, magnesium, phosphorous and vitamin E) , and sunflower seeds (lots of protein, fiber, vitamin E, iron and many other healthy minerals).
It’s yummy for breakfast or for a snack any time of day, and a handful is always a welcome treat!
1. Position a rack in the center of the oven, and preheat the oven to 325ºF.
2. Place the oats, sunflower seeds, almonds, and cinnamon in a large bowl and stir to combine.
3. Add the maple syrup and oil and stir until all the dry ingredients are moist.
4. Spread the granola on a 17 x 12 x 1-inch rimmed baking sheet.
5. Place the baking sheet in the oven and cook the granola until it begins to brown, 25 minutes. Stir the granola with a flat spatula. Continue to cook the granola until it is light golden brown, dry and fragrant, an additional 15 to 20 minutes. Stir the granola at least once more, and watch it carefully during the final minutes because it can burn quickly.
6. Place the baking sheet on a cooling rack. Add the raisins, and stir to combine, then allow the granola to cool completely. Transfer the granola to an air-tight container and store at room temperature for up to 1 month, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Clean It:
My family's favorite way to eat this granola is over plain organic yogurt mixed with apple sauce (about half apple sauce to yogurt). The apple sauce makes the yogurt's texture fluffier and sweetens it naturally, without the added sugar, corn syrup, or artificial flavors many presweetened yogurts use. If berries are in season, we often throw a handful on top.
Green It:
Avoid storing your granola in plastic. Instead, opt for glass, ceramic, or bamboo containers.
Make It Fun:
This is a great recipe to get kids of any age involved! They can help measure the ingredients, pour them all into a big bowl, mix them up either with a big wooden spoon or their hands, and then spread the mixture out on to the baking sheet.
