Kathleen Michels's Mission

Kathleen Michels is an advocate for safe and healthy playground spaces for kids.

Kathleen Michels, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist by training. She is also a committed steward of local environmental resources. Kathy is a founding member of the Safe Healthy Playing Fields Coalition www.safehealthyplayingfields.org, Friends of Sligo Creek and GreenWheaton, the Sligo Headwaters Civic Association, and is active in other environmental and community groups and issues. Kathy is a graduate of the neurobiology program of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and was a Science and Engineering Fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS). She is currently a Program Officer at the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health. Kathy lives in the Wheaton area with her husband and two sons and their dog and cat.
